How can I go about getting a plane ticket to Europe and back, starting from scratch?

You see, I'm not a very independant person, no matter how hard I try to be. If I can't find a way to take a trip there, for at least a summer, my boyfriend and I aren't going to work out. Before you ask, no we have not met yet, and I know the popular believe that there is just NO possable way I could be in love with someone I have never met and yadda yadda. But he's really the only person I have met that made me feel so.. I'unno, smitten and not alone. Here, there or otherwise. So now that we got that through, please don't leave answers reguarding to it.

Anyway, I am sixteen years old. I don't have a job, or money, or a passport, I wasn't born into a well off or rich family of any sort, I don't have a drivers license, and well.. I don't know the first thing about traveling. So yes, I am starting from scratch. What I need to know is how to get a passport, anything extra I'd need to know to go to another country for a while, about how much accomodations and things would cost, if I'd need to get a job there as well.. and how to get a passport and everything as soon as possable. Hopefully by next year.. and hopefully, mostly on my own without parental help, as my mom isn't very dependable..
I know people in my school that have gone to Japan and Paris and.. all that. T_T Surely it -has- to be possable for someone like me to take trips too.. we're not -poor-, we're just.. content.

I don't plan on asking for his help in this, either.

Thank you. Sorry it was such a long post. *Cough* I have a habbit of doing that.
Also, I live in Michigan, USA and my final destination would be Plymouth England.

American minors need permission letters to carry if they travel alone.

Passport information:

Where to find travel information:

http://www.expedia.com

http://www.orbitz.com

Accommodations can range widely in cost, from hostels to five star hotels.

As a visitor to England, you won't need any visas. If for some unexplainable reason this relationship works out, and you want to stay, you'll need to get a visa.

If you're really serious about this in a year or so, I would suggest making all your arrangements through a travel agent.

You have no experience living independently in the US, let alone abroad. You haven't even finished school, I imagine, and you planning on running off to see a guy you don't even know in some foreign country. It sounds very impetuous and irresponsible on your part.

But then, you already know this, don't you?

Let him make an effort to come visit you. If he is worth anything, he can get a ticket and fly to Michigan and meet you and your family. Running off to Europe at 16 to be with some guy is not wise.

My daughter did it within the same country--went to visit her online "soul mate" in another city for a week. When she met him, she realized he was not at all what she thought he was. Even adults can be infatuated by someone they have met over the Internet, but meeting in reality is a whole other matter. I would think twice about it, but I have a feeling that as soon as your parents get wind of your plans, that will be the end of it anyway.

You won't be able to work there, so save up your money. If he's able to, you might be better off having him come visit you.

You might think you know what you want to do with your life, but at 16, you will change your mind later. don't get yourself stuck in a situation you wished you hadn't. Meet the guy for a week in person before making plans to spend months with him.

US passports, you can apparently apply for them at US Post Offices

For general travel information, go to a travel website such as:

Which has many tips written by site users themselves telling it like it is.

To find the currency exchange rate between the US Dollar ($) and UK Pound (£) check out:

http://www.xe.com/

At time of replying, £1 (GBP) = $1.64

$1 = £0.60 (60p / 60 pence).

Typical cheap accomadation in UK starts from around £20 a night usually = $32.88 at the current exchange rate.

Another good place for tips on travelling to the UK is a book published by Michelin (Michelin Green Travel guide: Great Britain): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1906261083?ie=UTF8&tag=jduck1979_usa-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=1789&creativeASIN=1906261083
