When traveling around Europe in a camper van, can you park up overnight anywhere?

We are traveling through Belgium, Germany, Czech, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy and France. Obviously we will be stopping at campsites along the way but want to save money by limiting these stays. Can you park up along the road side? In sensible places? Car parks etc?
Would be greatfull for any advice on this, and general traveling in Europe tips!

We did, and there are plenty of trailer parks that a van can easily fit in... we didn't have to pay a penny. We travelled through france, belguim , the netherands etc and it was fine.

I just got back from a day trip to Velika Planina in Slovenia. Down in the valley in Kamniska Bistrica there's en eco camp free of charge. It says they accept donations if you like the place and on average people pay 7€ a night per person. So it's really cheap. And it's a really nice place. There's 2 huge parking places across the street and I don't think there would be a problem if you stay there over a night.

Croatia:
Officially illegal.150 to 2000 euros penalty.
Unofficially: widely practicable. You just have to stay away from "easy" spots and far from the towns.
It is all down to local inspectors.

we do (in Flanders) have some park spots, some have to payed, some not
you could also find just a spot with no traffic where they don't see you
but finding a park spot for a camper (if you mean something like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1f/Peugeot_J5_camper_Eura_Mobil.jpg) you'll have to search very very good cause I haven't seen much of these places
